Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

Kevin and I are nothing, if not spontaneous! 11 days before Christmas we decided to schedule a quick getaway for a few days to someplace warm. I left the planning and decisions up to Kevin, and he came up with a perfect vacation for the two of us. - Playa Del Carmen, Mexico! We left our house around 3:30am on Christmas morning and headed to the airport for the inevitable hurry-up-and-wait scenario.

After a few scary moments in the Cancun airport where we thought we might not have transportation for the 60 mile trip to Playa del Carmen, we were all set and heading down the highway in a resort van. The van had to drop off some other couples to their destination first. Pulling into the first resort destination, we were greeted with some very scary views of places only half constructed.

Our resort was the Riu Playacar, which was an all-inclusive resort that included meals, drinks, water activities, entertainment, and the works! It was absolutely stunning. The lobby had an open-air design and was the ultimate in luxury.

One thing this resort did not lack was the number of bars available to get your free drinks. One sat right in the center of the lobby as you walked in!

What a gorgeous room, and daily towel art also (which was much nicer than cruise ship towel art - these included live flowers!)

Kevin and I enjoying the luxury!

All of the buildings were open-air and you could look down your hallway into the other buildings. Each building was painted a different color and the interior had colored tile and walls to match.

View from our balcony. This resort had LOTS of beautiful plant life, palm trees, and lush vegetation.
